VOICE is a non-denominational, Gospel-centered conference with the vision of helping young people know Christ on a personal level and live out His reality in their daily lives.

Back in 1999, this conference began with the goal of equipping young people to impact society by offering training in character, leadership, and English. And so the Character Leadership English Conference (CLEC) was born. For three summers, Dr. Stephen Chen and his family led groups of high school and college students to America to receive training in those three areas.

Because of 9/11 and SARS, CLEC was put on hold for 2 years. Instead, the Chen family hosted TESOL training in Oklahoma City for those interested in teaching English– many of whom ended up teaching in Taiwan.

In 2004, the King Car Education Foundation requested TESOL training for English teachers from Taiwan, and so the two programs joined together into what is now known as VOICE (Visualizing Opportunities In Character and English). Since then, VOICE has evolved to include three groups: (1) TESOL students who have a desire to teach English as a channel of ministry, (2) VOICE students who receive training in discipleship and English, and (3) V2 students– also known as interns– who return to VOICE to be mentored in ministry and leadership. The unique combination of these programs allow all three groups to learn from each other and build lasting friendships.

Our motto at VOICE is “God is real. Live like it.” Our goal, however, is not just to teach students how to live the Christian life but more importantly to understand why we’re Christians. It is our prayer that all of us– staff and students alike– would grow in our understanding of the grace of God and thereby find the reason to live for Him.
